Abstract: The project is part of the civil engineering and transport scientific discipline. The project aims at presentation and analysis of innovative solutions in railway track structure into direction of people and buildings protection against vibrations and nois. Within the project, analyses of theoretical models concerning railway track dynamics and vibration propagation will be carried out along with experimental investigations with regard to the proposed innovative solutions in railway track structure. The project will not analyse the aerodynamic noise (which requires other methods of protection) but only the noise coming from the elements of the rail surface, mainly rails.

The project tasks contain:

  • Presentation of innovative concept of under sleeper pad and innovative rail damper.
  • Specification of functional features and initial estimation of the effectiveness measure of the proposed solutions.
  • Analysis of dynamic models, including description of existing solutions and their modification in terms of multilayer structures with special emphasis on vibro-isolating elements.
  • Description of required mechanical parameters of the structure, also with regard to vibration propagation to protected object.
  • Laboratory investigations of material samples and rail track panel with a use of the proposed solutions.
  • Operational research using innovative elements and comparison of results with previously obtained in the base location.
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of the innovative solutions application, based on the results of laboratory tests, model analyzes and additional studies.
  • Development of recommendations for the proposed solutions.

Project effects:

  • Prototypes of rail damper and under sleeper pad for sleeper made of prestressed concrete, together with indications of manufacturing technology and assembly.
  • Guidelines for the application of new solutions depending on operating parameters, location of objects protected from vibration sources.
