Abstract: The aim of the project is to develop a concept for a hydrologically sustainable single-family housing development to counteract the effects of climate change - planning the development (from site selection and adaptation, to design, construction method and use) in a way that most effectively restores the disturbed natural hydrological cycle of the urbanized catchment area. Provision is made for the use of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems and dual installations with underground tanks and rainwater harvesting units, the implementation of driveways and sidewalks made of water-permeable concrete, and the discharge of excess rainwater into rain gardens as a basic form of Low Impact Development (LID) architecture. Such a solution will provide a number of measurable benefits in terms of current climate change: reducing the intake of tap water from underground intakes (at the same time reducing the costs incurred for water and sewerage fees by residents), reducing the volume and peak flow values of surface runoff and pollutant loads entering receiving bodies, increasing infiltration of rainwater into the ground, improving the living conditions of residents of the planned development through the impact of rain gardens on its microclimate. The model will be an original study containing original solutions that can be implemented in whole or in part in the designs of planned developments.
