Abstract: The book is dedicated to doctoral students and research workers as an introduction to modern methods of modeling the sewage network together with the objects located on it, such as retention tanks. The book deals with the construction of probabilistic models of rainfall and their use in the dimensioning of retention tanks. It discusses the methods of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of hydrodynamic models of urban catchments, as well as proprietary calculation algorithms for the dimensioning of retention tanks, taking into account the uncertainty of calibrated parameters and the variability of outflow hydrographs from the catchment and shape parameters. This aspect is very important from the point of view of contemporary hydrology of urban catchments, because it is the reliability of the identified parameters and their appropriate selection determines that the developed hydrodynamic model of the catchment can find practical application at the stage of sewage network management. The presented study includes innovative graphical and analytical methods of tanks dimensioning, taking into account the shapes of hydrographs of the outflow from the catchment area, which is omitted in most of the methods used. Also presented are hybrid models which are a combination of graphical and analytical methods with probabilistic models of rainfall, which makes it possible to shorten the calculation time compared to the currently used calculation procedures. A number of computational examples were presented, in which the subsequent simulation steps were discussed at the stage of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis in the simulation of the rainfall-drainage model and the modeling of the retention tanks. Knowledge and the ability to implement computational algorithms in the field of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis can also be used when analyzing catchments with implemented green infrastructure facilities.
This monograph, in addition to being in line with the latest trends in the development of methods to support sustainable development of urban areas, minimizing anthropogenic pressure on groundwater and surface water resources and counteracting climate change, will also address the possibilities of minimizing economic losses caused by flash floods recorded in Europe and around the world. Due to the discussed thematic scope, the monograph is placed within the scientific discipline of Environmental Engineering, Mining and Energy.
