Success of the Department of Applied Mathematics

On December 19, 2023, the winners of the 4th edition of the “Academic Lublin” competition were announced, the aim of which is to promote and support academic initiatives implemented in the city. In this year's edition of the competition, as many as 60 applications were submitted with a total requested amount of PLN 669,000 gross. The Competition Committee selected 11 projects that will receive financial support in the amount of PLN 101,000 gross, including one project from Lublin University of Technology.

The distinguished project is an initiative called ‘Hackology’ submitted by the Student Scientific Club of Machine Learning ‘ATLAS’ (Association of Technology, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Statistics), operating at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology. The club was founded on the initiative of students of Data Engineering and Analysis. It was registered on July 7, 2023, and its supervisor is Magdalena Piłat-Rożek, MSc. The Hackology initiative received maximum funding of PLN 15,000 gross.

Hackology is an international academic competition which involves conducting a programming marathon. It aims to develop innovative IT solutions for a specific challenge, elaborated jointly with business representatives.

The planned event will take place on October 19-20, 2024, and will be addressed to students who are passionate about new technologies, innovative solutions in the field of artificial intelligence and programming.

Hackology is a unique opportunity to connect the academic world with the business world. Companies will have the opportunity to support the event, present their activities, participate in the evaluation of solutions and selection of winners as jury members. Additionally, interested companies can propose a topic for the task that will be developed by the participants.

The planned event will also be substantively supported by students and lecturers representing an innovative field of study at Lublin University of Technology - Data Engineering and Analysis.
