St. Nicholas Day with GAMZA

06.12.2023

On Monday, December 4, 2023, the dance studio of Lublin University of Technology turned into a kingdom of dance, laughter and Christmas fun. Pupils and teachers from the Special Primary School No. 26 in Lublin had fun together with dancers of the Ballroom Dance Formation of Lublin University of Technology GAMZA and volunteers of the Association of Dance Lovers in Lublin during the 33rd Santa Claus and Christmas Dance Meetings.

Piotr Mochol, artistic director of GAMZA, reminds that the dance meetings have a long history.

– It started with students of special education who danced in GAMZA and also had internships in a special education school. One day they asked if they could organize a St. Nicholas party for the pupils. It took place on December 6, 1991 - says Mochol. He adds: - That party gave impetus to another initiative, namely New Year's and carnival charity concerts, the 33rd edition of which will take place in February next year.

During the event, the children had the opportunity to admire dance performances by GAMZA, including standard and Latin American dances. Then they joined in the fun, performing energetic song dances such as Macarena or Lambada. There were also games and competitions, and at the end there was a sweet St. Nicholas surprise waiting for the participants.

What were the impressions of the event participants?

- It was really nice. I couldn't wait for this day. I like dancing and learning new steps. I often perform with GAMZA - says Nikola, a fifth grade pupil.

Sylwia Bielak, a technology teacher at the Special Primary School No. 26 in Lublin, emphasizes that children look forward to these meetings because they give them a lot of joy.

– Our pupils approach these meetings very emotionally. They try to be good so that Santa Claus will give them gifts. They willingly take part in the fun - admits the teacher.

The teacher points out that such meetings bring great therapeutic effects. They influence not only the development of cognitive processes, but above all, the emotional and social development of pupils.
