Participants of the Doctoral School of Lublin University of Technology were once again among the winners of competitions organized by the National Science Center. In the 22nd edition of PRELUDIUM, the list of winners included 231 projects worth approximately PLN 36.5 million. Among them, there are two projects carried out by scientists from Lublin University of Technology: Magdalena Droździel-Jurkiewicz, M.Sc., and Wojciech Zbyszyński, M.Sc.
PRELUDIUM is a competition that enables researchers at a very early stage of their career, before their PhD, to gain first experience in implementing research projects lasting up to three years.
– From the beginning of the operation of the National Science Center, we focused on building a complete scientific career path, focusing on the independence and development of researchers. Many outstanding scientists currently working in Poland are representatives of the so-called generation of the NCN - researchers who started their scientific path, for example, with PRELUDIUM, developed their research and, thanks to the support of our grants, were able to build teams that today conduct work at the highest world level - says Krzysztof Jóźwiak, director of the National Science Center.
Magdalena Droździel-Jurkiewicz is an employee of the Department of Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. As part of the grant, she will investigate the modification of the topography and morphology of metal surface in order to improve the bond strength in metal-fiber laminates.
Wojciech Zbyszyński works in the Laboratory of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture. The scientist will describe the influence of the internal structure on the response of modern multi-layer composites built on a cement matrix obtained using additive methods under mechanical loads.
As admitted by the rector of Lublin University of Technology, Prof. Zbigniew Pater, the success of the representatives of the Doctoral School proves the high level of research conducted at the university.
– Their achievements are also a source of pride for the entire academic community and proof that investments in the development of young scientists bring tangible results – notes the rector.
The participants of the Doctoral School will have three years and nearly PLN 420,000 for the implementation of their scientific ideas.
