We regret to inform that Prof. Leonard Runkiewicz sadly passed away on 22nd January 2023 (aged 83). He was an outstanding scientist and engineer - Honorary Professor of Lublin University of Technology, graduate and long-term professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Warsaw University of Technology, combining his work at WUT and Building Research Institute in Warsaw throughout his professional life.
Warsaw University of Technology was the place of his didactic and scientific work, while at the Institute he conducted scientific, research and organizational activities, performing a number of key functions in the Institute's scientific department for years. In both of these units, as well as directly in design offices and in construction, he conducted extensive and highly valued engineering and expert activity.
His scientific achievements are primarily related to diagnostics of building structures, including the theory and practice of non-destructive and semi non-destructive methods as well as the issues of construction safety and reliability.
Professor Leonard Runkiewicz was a member of important national scientific organizations, including the Concrete Structures Section and the Building Materials Section of the Civil and Water Engineering Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
For his activities, Professor Runkiewicz received many awards and distinctions.
