Our scientists are the winners of the NAWA scholarships

08.01.2021

135 scientists received scholarships from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) within the Bekker Programme. They will go to the best foreign universities in 26 countries. During stays of 3 - 24 months, they will carry out scientific projects or complete postdoctoral internships as well as develop international cooperation.

- NAWA scholarships for research trips support scientists in their professional development and strengthen the internationalization of our universities. Polish scientists can work with the world's most outstanding researchers in a given field and establish permanent international contacts - assures Dr. Grażyna Żebrowska, director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

Two scientists from LUT received the scholarships: Dr. Eng. Anna Dziubińska from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Eng. Maciej Szeląg from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Dr. Eng. Anna Dziubińska will spend 18 months at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK. She will carry out a postdoctoral fellowship and conduct research on a new technology for forging parts made of high-strength magnesium alloys from cast slots.

- Thanks to the scholarship, I will have the opportunity to work in a group of internationally renowned scientists from the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC), one of the best equipped metal plastic forming laboratories in the world. This will translate into an increase in the rank of my research and the visibility of the published results on the international arena. I hope that my participation in the program will result in joint publications in prestigious journals and in submitting joint project applications at the European level - says Dr. Eng. Anna Dziubińska.

Dr. Eng. Maciej Szeląg will conduct research on intelligent building materials and nanotechnology at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden for 3 months.

- Modern construction makes more and more demands on the properties of cement composites. The result of cooperation with Swedish scientists will be new cognitive and practical knowledge, which will allow the design of modern cement composites with increased resistance to the effects of elevated temperatures. The scholarship will contribute to the internationalization of my research as well as obtaining foreign grants - informs Dr. Eng. Maciej Szeląg.
