New equipment arrived at LUT

29.01.2024

A modern intercom system was delivered to the Building Automation Programming Laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of Lublin University of Technology. The equipment was donated by Aco, a Polish manufacturer of intercom devices. It will serve students of the following fields: electrical engineering, engineering applications of computer science in electrical engineering and multimedia engineering.

– Thanks to the modules, we will expand the functionality of current teaching stations related to building automation with an access control system – says Dr. Eng. Jacek Majcher from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Technologies.

Students will be able to use an intercom system based on digital video intercoms with a combination lock, a module for people with disabilities, home automation control module, normally open buttons as well as audio and video receivers.

– The building automation market is developing dynamically and the technologies we know today will be outdated in a few years. Thanks to the new equipment, students will have access to the latest solutions that have recently entered the market or are about to enter the market. And they will be able to test them - emphasizes Dr. Eng. Jacek Majcher.

Szymon Nowak, president of the management board of Aco, argues that the idea is to increase students' chances on the labor market and access to the latest industry knowledge.

– Our goal is to prepare specialists to understand and widely use broadly understood intercom technologies. By assumption, implementing the skills of programming and assembling systems will serve them throughout their professional career - assures the president.

Nowak points out that more and more industrial companies provide universities with modern equipment, enabling students to become familiar with the latest solutions available on the market already at the education stage.

Dr. Edyta Łukasik, vice-dean at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, confirms that cooperation with companies such as Aco brings real benefits for students.

– Through the involvement of enterprises in equipping universities with modern equipment, students have contact with the most modern solutions available on the market, which makes them much better prepared for their future work – says the vice-dean.

During the meeting, students had the opportunity to participate in a lecture and then in a training course, during which they learned the most important features and functions of devices from various product lines, as well as the differences between the systems in which Aco intercoms operate.

– Students could check how the intercom system is built. They used the intercom system extended with a Smart Home solution - explains Bartłomiej Pospiech, coordinator of cooperation with Aco's strategic partners.

President Szymon Nowak assured students that additional equipment would be made available to those who would like to write a diploma thesis related to the company's products.
