LUT plants tree to mark its jubilee

05.05.2023

Prof. Zbigniew Pater, rector of Lublin University of Technology, accompanied by vice-rectors, chancellor, bursar and representatives of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, planted a unique tree on our campus - the red oak. The event was part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Lublin University of Technology.

- With today's ceremony, we want to immortalize an important moment in the history of our university. Oak is a special, royal tree, which is a symbol of strength, endurance and longevity. I would like Lublin University of Technology to possess similar features - said Prof. Zbigniew Pater, rector of LUT. And he added: - I hope that this oak will play the same role as the baobab tree used to play on Litewski Square, that it will be a place for student meetings.

The initiative to plant an oak tree came from the employees of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of LUT. Prof. Anna Życzyńska, vice-dean for education, spoke on behalf of the faculty authorities. - This oak tree, if properly cared for, will outlive us all, but it will not outlive the university, because it will grow together with it forever. It will grow in all directions, like branches of a tree, it will be strong as a trunk and it will be well-rooted in the academic environment and its surroundings – stressed Prof. Życzyńska.
