Scientific projects, research and analysis are the main areas of the cooperation agreement concluded on March 6, 2024 between Lublin University of Technology and the Lublin County. The document was signed by the rector of LUT, Prof. Zbigniew Pater, and Zdzisław Antoń on behalf of the Lublin County.

The rector points out that cooperation between science, business and local government is one of the missions of modern universities.

– Today, the university is not only about teaching and science, but also extensive cooperation with the social and economic environment. This year, Lublin University of Technology became the Ambassador of the Lublin Voivodeship. This is an obligation and that is why we want to share with our partners the solutions that are created at the university. We already cooperate with the Łęczyński district and the Biłgoraj commune. Now our scientists will support the Lublin district - says the rector, Prof. Zbigniew Pater.

The Lublin starosta also emphasizes the role of cooperation with academic centers, which are a very important element of the sustainable development of the Lublin County.

– We often struggle with simple problems. We then employ consulting companies, and Lublin has huge resources in universities. In order to make maximum and effective use of all our possibilities, we will use the knowledge and experience of Lublin University of Technology - says starosta Zdzisław Antoń.

Under the agreement, LUT will implement research projects that are important for the local needs and challenges of the Lublin County. This makes it possible to develop innovative solutions that can contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.

– Our goal is to prepare and implement joint projects within the frames of available financial instruments: European, national and regional. This will create a new area of action for innovation and development of our community. It will also contribute to further improvement of the quality of socio-economic life of the inhabitants of the Lublin County - argues the Lublin starosta.

There is a demand from the county for research and analyzes regarding, among others, the use of artificial intelligence in administration, cybersecurity, data storage and analysis.

– We know what administrative processes look like. We know how customer service works in administration. We want to improve it. Nowadays, digital services are common. A resident could handle most matters from home, using the help of, for example, Avatar, who will analyze the resident's needs and provide guidance. And this will happen thanks to artificial intelligence - explains Waldemar Wapiński, director of the Development and Cooperation Department of the District Office in Lublin.

And he announces assistance in the commercialization of solutions developed at the university.

– We have the Lublin District Business Office, within which we cooperate with entrepreneurs throughout the district and we will be happy to talk to them about looking for investors – says Wapiński.

According to the director of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer of LUT, Paweł Chrapowicki, special emphasis will also be placed on the implementation of the "Green Human Space" project, which assumes the revitalization of the areas around the beekeeping technical school in Pszczela Wola and the promotion of science in the Discovery, Imagination and Activity Zone in Bychawa.

– Among the most important areas of cooperation, we jointly focused on ensuring energy efficiency of investments, sustainable development of the area around the beekeeping technical school and the use of the latest technologies, including 3D printing and scanning in order to present the cultural heritage of the Lublin region - explains the director of the Center.

The contract was concluded for an indefinite period.
