Lublin University of Technology will provide experts, know-how and tools to increase energy efficiency in the Biłgoraj County. The agreement on this matter was signed on February 16, 2024 in Lublin by the Rector of LUT, Prof. Zbigniew Pater, and the Mayor of Biłgoraj, Janusz Rosłan.
– New challenges lie ahead – said Mayor of Biłgoraj. – We must think about keeping our cities as cheap as possible and making life in them cheap and comfortable. As local government officials, we do not have specialized, scientific knowledge to immediately find the best solutions, hence the cooperation with Lublin University of Technology.
The support of Lublin University of Technology opens up new perspectives and opportunities for Biłgoraj in the field of sustainable energy development.
– By using the latest achievements in science and technology, we can achieve our goals faster and more effectively. We will actively work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the energy efficiency of our town - emphasized the mayor.
The main goal of cooperation is the gradual introduction of solutions aimed at achieving energy efficiency in public buildings and increasing the share of renewable energy sources.
As noted by the rector, Prof. Zbigniew Pater, among national universities, Lublin University of Technology creates the most solutions that are protected by patent law every year. Last year, the university obtained as many as 139 protections for inventions.
Lublin University of Technology has specialists, a modern laboratory base and instruments to support innovation and technology transfer.
– Thanks to our potential, we constitute an excellent scientific base for local communities. Both scientific research conducted at the university in the field of distributed and renewable energy, as well as fields of study such as renewable energy engineering, environmental engineering or power engineering, fit perfectly into the joint activities of the university and the county - said the rector.
The Vice-Rector for General Affairs and Development, Prof. Dariusz Czerwiński, talked about the tasks that the Lublin scientists are going to perform.
– We will support the county by introducing innovative solutions in the area of energy production and storage, the use of green energy sources, as well as staff training for the development of the county. The area of electricity is not the only one. Cooperation will also concern environmental engineering (modern sewage treatment plants, passive buildings) and the transmission and storage of thermal energy - said the vice-rector. He added: - We will also implement our concepts, which we develop for the District Office in Lublin as part of the Green Human Space project, in the area of rational waste management as the basis for a healthy society and sustainable development.
In addition, researchers from Lublin University of Technology will conduct training in the field of modern technologies related to electricity, heat and data analytics, which is necessary for the proper functioning of a modern county.
