Scientists from the Bialystok, Lublin and Rzeszow Universities of Technology as well as a group of entrepreneurs met in Lublin to present the effects of activities carried out so far as part of the Via Carpatia Polytechnic Network. The event took place on September 25, 2023 at the Lublin Conference Center.

– It was an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest scientific and technological achievements as well as to establish business and academic contacts in the field of science and technology – emphasize the conference organizers.

Via Carpatia Polytechnic Network named after President Lech Kaczyński is a joint project of the Bialystok, Lublin and Rzeszow Universities of Technology. Its main goals are to support education as well as the development and commercialization of science in three voivodeships of Eastern Poland. The network was inaugurated in April 2022, and the projects started on October 1.

– After almost a year of intensive work in the areas of education, science and commercialization, we have shown the wealth of ideas coming from the three universities. We are glad that most of the competitions already have new editions. This is a sign that our initiative is developing dynamically and each new edition becomes even more diverse. We are introducing changes and improving our programs to meet the expectations of participants - says the Rector of Lublin University of Technology, Prof. Zbigniew Pater.

As the rector points out, the value that best describes the achieved effects are numbers: - We conducted classes that benefited 5,000 students, we organized trainings for 500 of our teachers, 77 people participated in research internships, 40 technical problems were reported by companies, of which 21 were successfully solved by the students. We are currently implementing as many as 12 scientific projects. Each university coordinates 4 such projects.

Also the Vice-Rector for Development of Bialystok University of Technology, Prof. Mirosław Świercz, draws attention to the impressive number of additional classes: - We have prepared compensatory classes for students in subjects that are a continuation of secondary school, in particular in the field of mathematics, physics and chemistry. On the other hand, we offered secondary school students lessons conducted by our employees. Their topics included mainly content related to expanding knowledge in the field of basic sciences.

In turn, the Vice-Rector for Science of Rzeszow University of Technology, Prof. Lesław Gniewek, pointed to the significant role of the Virtual Commercialization Accelerator: - We will collect data from our universities regarding the scientific and research potential, and at the same time build a database of entrepreneurs' needs. This will allow for active dialogue with the business sector and ongoing response to its expectations.

The conference was accompanied by an exhibition of inventions created at the three technical universities. You could see a glove with a sensor for translating sign language into text, unmanned aircraft “Sarys”, a wind turbine with a vertical axis of rotation and a bitumen production plant.
