Defense and Security Network of Technical Universities

31.05.2023

Three technical universities: Lublin University of Technology, Rzeszow University of Technology and Kielce University of Technology will cooperate for the benefit of modern technologies in the field of defense and security, the defense industry and the modernization of the Polish army. The agreement on the creation of the Defense and Security Network of Technical Universities was signed on May 25, 2023 at the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology of Rzeszow University of Technology in Stalowa Wola.

As part of the network, joint activities are planned to carry out scientific research for the defense and security of the Republic of Poland in order to achieve the synergy effect of the combined potentials of the technical universities.

According to Prof. Piotr Koszelnik, rector of Rzeszow University of Technology, the defense sector, in order to develop, needs innovative ideas, modern techniques and implementations as well as qualified specialists. Such development largely depends on harmonious cooperation between the army, industry and science, including universities. This has a significant impact not only on the security of the state, but also on economic development.

– Recent months have clearly shown that research in the field of defense and security technologies is crucial in terms of the geopolitical situation. In Rzeszow we see it in a special way. Therefore, we undertake cooperation in the field of scientific research in these areas. I am convinced that the result will be new, important, but above all, Polish technologies that will make us independent of external, often difficult situations. Investment in our universities and our ideas will give our country independence from external suppliers in the field of defense and security - stressed Prof. P. Koszelnik.

The aim of this initiative is to exchange knowledge and experience of three technical universities and to co-create research and development projects, which is particularly important due to the revival of the defense industry and the need to support it with innovative scientific solutions.

– The defense industry creates an extensive space for scientists to conduct research and implement projects for the needs of national security. We have appropriate laboratory facilities, great engineers in the field of high technologies. By joining forces, we increase the possibilities and implementation potential in the context of new solutions for the army. Our goal is to join the broadly understood modernization of the Polish army - said Prof. Zbigniew Koruba, rector of Kielce University of Technology.

- Our scientists are developing many innovative solutions for the industry, which help to create new ones, this time used in the area of Polish defense. We have specialist knowledge, a modern laboratory base and technology transfer support instruments. Thanks to this, we will be a real scientific support for other members of the Network. By combining the potentials of the three universities, we have a chance to develop solutions that will serve our army. We are already thinking about specific products, such as cannon-howitzer barrels or engines for combat vehicles - added Prof. Zbigniew Pater, rector of Lublin University of Technology.
