On September 27, 2022, Laboratory of Automated Electric Drives and Industrial Computer Science was opened at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of Lublin University of Technology, in which the most modern equipment of the leading industrial manufacturers of advanced control systems was collected in one place.
Prof. Zbigniew Pater, rector of Lublin University of Technology, congratulated the employees of the Department of Electric Drives and Machines on the idea for the development of the laboratory. As he emphasized, the scientists will be able to conduct world-class research thanks to the apparatus. The rector thanked also the representatives of Mitsubishi Electric for their help in equipping the laboratory: - Thanks to the cooperation with one of the creators of the most modern electrical and electronic products and systems, we will take care of the practical level of knowledge and skills of our students.
The university has opened the Laboratory of Automated Electric Drives and Industrial Computer Science in cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., KUKA Poland and Kamami.pl.
- Our company belongs to the world league when it comes to industrial automation and robotics. We are currently implementing the Miraizukuri educational program, i.e. building the future that supports the education of students. As in the case of Lublin University of Technology, we co-finance equipment in laboratories at technical universities. We do it so that students have a base and a chance to develop their practical skills. At the same time, it is an opportunity to get acquainted with our state-of-the-art equipment - emphasizes Damian Wilk from Mitsubishi Electric.
The laboratory is equipped with, among others, KUKA industrial robot arm with six degrees of freedom. The device is used to perform tasks on an industrial line. It allows to test programs in both manual and automatic modes at reduced speed. On the other hand, Mitsubishi systems are used to test software for correct operation in a real industrial system.
- Thanks to this equipment, our scientists will conduct very advanced research in the areas of broadly understood industrial applications - from production lines to the development of individual components, e.g. drive systems. This will increase the attractiveness of the university and will allow for establishing wider cooperation with the industry - says Prof. Wojciech Jarzyna, the head of the Department of Electric Drives and Machines.
Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Kolano, the head of the Laboratory of Automated Electric Drives and Industrial Computer Science, talks about the offer addressed to companies - We will provide research services to external entities in the field of testing: software, visualization systems, industrial communication, as well as new solutions in the field of production engineering.
Our students will also learn on the devices stored in the laboratory. - We will conduct teaching on devices that are actually used in industry. During the classes, students will learn about Mitsubishi drive control systems, KUKA industrial robot systems and microprocessor systems used in modern industrial systems. This will allow for better preparation of our graduates to the requirements of the labor market and increasing the level of education of highly qualified personnel - emphasizes Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Kolano.
The purchase of the equipment was financed from the funds of the project entitled "Universal design at Lublin University of Technology".
- Its purpose is to provide laboratories with funds dedicated to the teaching of designing devices used by people with disabilities - explains Prof. Dariusz Czerwiński, the project manager.
